Your future starts before med school. We believe discovery comes from curiosity, not credentials. The best innovators don’t need letters after their name — they just need a place to start.

We turn ideas into experiments — giving young scientists the mentorship, funding, and tools to do the real science now.

About

Every experiment begins with a standard.

What’s ours?

Our mentorship network connects top undergraduates with active faculty researchers, entrepreneurs, and technical operators who accelerate progress rather than supervise it. By identifying exceptional students early and placing them in environments built for execution, we compress the timeline from idea to impact. This isn’t about giving students a chance; it’s about capturing talent before the system overlooks it.

Mentorship

Our Pittsburgh lab at the Hillman Cancer Center, centered around Pitt and CMU, is where education meets execution. It’s a classroom for the best and most driven undergraduates — a space where learning happens through discovery, not lectures. Students conduct independent research alongside peers who are equally motivated and capable, creating a feedback loop of ideas, competition, and collaboration. The result is a dynamic environment that accelerates both scientific growth and tangible outcomes.

Lab Space

Most undergraduates never get their ideas funded, not because the science is weak but because the paperwork is. We handle the infrastructure that turns good research into fundable research — compliance, budgeting, subaward management, and narrative polish. Students focus on the science; we make sure the proposal wins. Additionally, as a SAM.gov registered research partner, every grant becomes a revenue stream and every success strengthens the model.

Grant Writing

Every project that passes through our lab is built with an exit in mind. We help students structure their research so it can attract grants, partners, and eventually investors. When a project shows real promise, Control Group takes a long-term equity position and provides the administrative and technical support needed to move from prototype to proof of concept. It’s a pipeline that turns student innovation into investable biotech — and keeps the value where it belongs, inside the studio.

Commercialization

We planted the model. It took root.

Our first project secured $50K in research funding and set the stage for $350K in investment — living proof that the model could scale naturally.
